What Type of Rose Petals Are Best?

Rose petals are used in numerous different ceremonies and gatherings. Of course, their obvious use is in weddings, where they’re usually scattered on the aisle before the bride makes her entrance. The petals come in packages that are usually sold by color. The color preference usually has more to do with the season than anything else, though some events that are heavily color-themed will sometimes incorporate rose petals that compliment the color choices seen throughout the event. This is entirely up to the individual; there are no hard and fast traditions where this is concerned.

There are both natural and artificial rose petals available. The fake versions are usually made out of silk. While these can be somewhat attractive, they don’t have the scent of actual rose petals and they don’t float to the ground in quite the same way. Because they are artificial, cleanup is a more involved affair, as well. Natural rose petals simply decay after a while, but silk petals will take a long time to decompose, if they do at all, and create a litter problem that must be dealt with after the ceremony is over.

Sometimes, it might seem like it would be easier—or most certainly cheaper—to just harvest your own rose petals. The problem is that it takes a lot of roses to make a useful amount of rose petals and, if you don’t happen to have a very large garden going, you’re probably just wasting your time. There is the additional problem of the roses themselves. If you want to make your own rose petals for a ceremony or other gathering, you’ll have to be willing to destroy all of your roses, which rather defeats the purpose of having grown them at all.

Rose petals can be purchased from wholesale florists for very low prices. The amounts that they come in are more than enough to provide for a large ceremony. The color variations range from deep and elegant reds to purples to pure whites, with everything imaginable in-between. For most people, ordering in this way will prove to be the most cost-effective and labor-saving way to go about it. It’s not worth it to wreck your own bushes for a few petals for a ceremony, especially when they come at such a low price, anyway, and when you need such a volume of petals.
